Being able to communicate that knowledge can inspire curiosity, spark innovation, and open doors for others. Our STEM Communication Scholarships reward Alaska high school students who turn complex concepts into clear, creative, and engaging educational videos.

We recognize outstanding STEM communication through three scholarship opportunities designed to celebrate student creativity and expand access to educational opportunities across Alaska.
STEM Communication Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes Alaskan students who demonstrate an exceptional ability to make STEM concepts accurate, accessible, and engaging.
Whether you’re explaining the physics of flight, exploring marine biology, or demonstrating a chemical reaction, we want to see how you bring STEM to life.
IgnitHER STEM Scholarship
Empowering the next generation of women in STEM.
The IgnitHER STEM Scholarship celebrates young women who demonstrate outstanding STEM communication skills.
By recognizing female students with a passion for scientific discovery and education, we hope to encourage greater representation of women in STEM fields and inspire future generations to pursue their ambitions.
Rural STEM Scholarship
Expanding opportunities beyond Alaska’s population centers.
The Rural STEM Scholarship recognizes students whose primary residence is in Alaska, but outside the Municipality of Anchorage, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Fairbanks North Star Borough, and City and Borough of Juneau.
We believe that geography should never limit a student’s opportunity to pursue STEM education or share their knowledge with the world.
One application allows eligible students to be considered for all available scholarship categories for which they qualify.
How It Works
Applying is simple. You don’t need a research laboratory, professional camera, or expensive equipment. All you need is a STEM concept you’re excited to explain.
1. Choose a STEM Question
Explore a question that interests you. Your topic can come from any STEM discipline.
2. Create Your Video
Produce an original, 60–90-second educational video that explains your topic clearly, accurately, and creatively.
3. Submit Your Application
Complete the official scholarship application and submit your video. Your video will be evaluated based on scientific accuracy, clarity of communication, creativity, and engagement.
Judging Criteria
Scientific Accuracy — 30 Points (30%)
Does your video communicate scientifically accurate information?
Clarity of Communication — 30 Points (30%)
Can someone unfamiliar with your topic understand your explanation?
Creativity & Engagement — 30 Points (30%)
Does your video present STEM in an interesting way?
Personal Connection — 10 Points (10%)
Does your video connect STEM to your personal interests or to Alaska?
