An expansive photographic view of an Alaska high school science classroom, with rows of light maple lab benches and black countertops, each station neatly outfitted with safety goggles, closed textbooks, and carefully coiled power cords for unseen equipment. At the front, a large whiteboard is blank, and tall windows reveal a snowy playground and low winter sun. Cool natural light streams in, contrasting with warm ceiling fluorescents, creating a balanced, inviting atmosphere. Shot from a slightly elevated corner, the composition shows depth down the rows of benches. The scene feels organized, inclusive, and ready for STEM learning, reflecting a professional, community-focused environment without any people present.

About

Why North Star STEM Exists

North Star STEM Foundation began with Alaska educators and engineers who saw talented students held back by distance and cost. We provide scholarships and mentorship that reward clear STEM communication, helping rural and first-generation students reach college and careers.

A close-up photographic scene of a rugged, weatherproof tablet resting on a moss-covered rock at the edge of an Alaska river, its screen displaying a colorful, abstract data visualization and code interface. Around it lie a compact solar charger, a well-used field notebook, and a small, empty sample vial. The background shows blurred tundra vegetation in deep greens and rusty reds, with snow-capped peaks under a pale sky. Soft, diffused overcast light emphasizes textures in the rock, water, and equipment, creating a calm yet adventurous mood. Captured at a low, three-quarter angle with shallow depth of field, the image symbolizes rural STEM fieldwork and research in authentic Alaska landscapes.
